Nihon University Lecture

July 23rd I had the opportunity to give a lecture at Nihon University. It was Miyakoda-sans' last lecture because Nihon University requires that professors retire at age 70. It was an honor to be invited to be part of his last lecture.

The atrium of the new building for agriculture and plant science, which also houses the landscape architecture classes.

Getting ready for the lecture by touring campus a bit

The lecture hall. Suprisingly a quest lecture held in english, by an unknown landscape architect with no significant projects to his name did not pack the house.

I am pretty sure that Miyakoda-san was warning the students that if they didn't pay attention and do well in school there was a good chance that one day they would be wearing pink shirts, and giving lectures in foreign countries on saturday mornings too.

My first lecture, and probably the most confusing thing these students have every had to sit though. Thank goodness Aya was doing her best to translate my ramblings into Japanese. Likely she was simply repeating her fathers warning, and advising them not to make eye contact with the large beast.

Miyakoda-san helped clarify a few points (I think), or simply reinforced that this is not what these students wanted to become

Miyakoda-san takes over and closes with a lecture of his own on his travels to Europe focusing on Stonehenge, and Vaux-le-Viacomte

The closing of the last lecture

A bouquet from the departments own rose garden to thank Miyakoda-san for his years with the school

I guess football season is about to start, and these guys want good tickets
