New Years Eve Miyakoda-san and I went to Ameyoco (America Town - once largely shops catering to american military, but now a large market focusing on food, specfically seafoods, and discount items) to do a little shopping, but mostly just to enjoy the spectacle.

The entry to Ameyoko from Okachimachi Station

Many people come here to get last minute deals on foods for the new year. By about 7 p.m. on New Years Eve most of the seafood is 50% off or more (at least according to the makred price versus what they are offering to sell it for)

The real Crabman

A side street

The main street. There are slightly more people here on New Years Eve than a traditional day/night, but it is always about this busy.

The shop where we got Ikura (salmon roe). Paid 1000 yen for what is usually 2000 yen and considered a discount at that price

Miyakoda-san and I seemed to confuse this merchant
