Nakagin Capsule Tower

For those of you wondering what the Capsule Tower is. It is a mixed use office and residential tower built in 1972. (referenced in the National Art Center post 3 previous)

Each Capsule is a self contained living space (8'x12'x7') fabricated off site and then simply attached to one of 2 primary access shafts by 4 high tension bolts. The modules are designed to be replacable, and can be connected and combined to create larger spaces. The spaces were originally marketed to single "salarymen" who often are only home long enough to eat, shower, and then sleep, thus the economic space in a prime location that otherwise would not have been affordable.
